How Our Smell Proof Storage Works

How our smell proof bags work

If you're reading this article, you're probably wondering what makes our products so smell proof? And the answer is simple: our cases, backpacks, and tote bags are all 100% carbon lined with a fully activated charcoal filter.

Smell Securing Carbon Liner Techonology

An activated carbon filter, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon that is treated to have increased surface area. The reason carbon is so effective is because of its pore size – one pound of activated carbon contains a surface area of approximately 100 acres! This highly porous lining adsorbs smell by chemically binding the scent (impurities) to the carbon.

Activated charcoal filters are especially good at filtering out volatile organic compounds – those fragrant smell particles. You can think of the carbon filter as a large sponge that removes smell particles from the air. This process is often referred to as scrubbing the air because any air that passes through the filter will be free of impurities (smell).

When choosing products that incorporate this smell proof technology, it’s important that the entirety of the bag or backpack be lined with the activated carbon filter – even a small gap will mean scents escape. This is why the entirety of our bags and backpacks are lined with an activated carbon filter – including the area underneath the zippers – even the air passing through the waterproof zipper seal will be scrubbed of any scent.

It’s also essential that the activated carbon filter is directly exposed the contaminated air – this is why we use a mesh liner inside our bags and backpacks.
